Temple Theatre Karaoke Competition Rules

Event Date: July 3, 2024
Event Time: 10:00 PM (following the fireworks)
Location: Temple Theatre, Houlton, Maine

1. Eligibility:

• Open to all individuals and groups.
• Participants must register and pay a $20 non-refundable sign-up fee to enter the competition.
• The competition is themed “Hollywood,” and participants must select a song from a movie.
• If part of a group, group members cannot also participate as an individual.

2. Registration:

• Registration can be completed online via our website or in-person at the theater box office.
• The $20 sign-up fee is non-refundable.
• Participants must provide their name, contact information, and the title of their chosen song during registration.

3. Song Selection:

• Participants must select a song from a movie.
• Participants must provide their song choice no later than 10 days before the competition (by June 23, 2024) to allow time for song graphics to be created.
• There will be a movie montage playing on the screen while participants sing.
• Participants may choose to provide their own background music. If using personal music, it must be submitted to the organizers no later than June 30, 2024.
• Songs with explicit lyrics or inappropriate content will not be permitted.

4. Competition Format:

• The competition will take place on July 3, 2024, at 10:00 PM.
• If there are too many participants, a qualifying round may be held prior to July 3rd. Details will be communicated to participants if necessary.
• Participants will be judged on vocal ability, stage presence, and adherence to the “Hollywood” theme.

5. Prizes:

• First Place: $1,000
• Second Place: $500

6. Performance Rules:

• Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled performance time.
• Each performance should not exceed 5 minutes.
• Participants are responsible for any props or costumes used during their performance.
• A sound check will be available prior to the competition.

7. Judging Criteria:

• Vocal Ability: Tone, pitch, and overall vocal performance.
• Stage Presence: Confidence, engagement with the audience, and overall performance quality.
• Theme Adherence: How well the song choice and performance align with the “Hollywood” theme.

8. Additional Information:

• The decision of the judges is final.
• Temple Theatre reserves the right to disqualify any participant who does not adhere to the competition rules or displays inappropriate behavior.
• By entering the competition, participants agree to have their name, image, and performance used to promote the event. Participants may be photographed and recorded for promotional purposes.
